Earth Fare: The Future of Healthy

Wednesday January 10th, 2018 a new all natural store opened up in Fairfax, VA to incredible curiosity. The store is called Earth Fare. Earth Fare is an American health and wellness supermarket with 46 locations in 9 states throughout the southeast and Midwest United States. It sells natural and organic food informed by a “Food Philosophy” and “Boot List”. All products are free of high fructose corn syrup, artificial fats, artificial trans fats artificial colors, artificial flavors, artificial preservatives, artificial sweeteners, bleached or bromated flour, never administered antibiotics or added growth hormones. They pride themselves on having the largest Organic Produce assortment in North America.

Founded by Roger Derrough in 1975, the first store opened its doors in Asheville, North Carolina as “Dinner for the Earth”. Initially Dinner for the Earth offered organic dried bulk foods in wood barrels and wellness products on handmade shelves. Six years later the store expanded to a new location and began to offer responsibly-sourced meats and produce. Dinner for the Earth became “Earth Fare” in 1994, after the team grew from a specialty store to a full-service store with expanded offerings of products, like craft beer and artisanal cheeses. This expansion was the catalyst for building a “healthy supermarket” accessible to everyone, which still informs the company’s present philosophy and expansion goals.

Starting on Wednesday I started working at Earth Fare. How do I find the work experience there? It’s not bad. This week I worked in the wellness department.

“Beauty products and supplements are more than just part of a healthy routine; they are nourishment for your body and skin. That’s why we make it our mission to carry the best products in our wellness department – products that help you discover health and radiance from the inside out.  The last thing you should have to worry about is what’s in your wellness or beauty product. So we’ve read every label so you don’t have to. Our Quality Standards provide the ideal lens to evaluate every new product, especially new ingredients and trends. And if you have questions, you can always find help from a Trusted Advisor in our Wellness Department. Wellness is about taking better care of yourself, but we know it’s also important to think about the impact every product and ingredient has on our planet. So we make it a priority to work with environmentally and socially responsible companies dedicated to a holistic vision of health – for you, your neighbors and the planet.”- Earth Fare

So for me I worked with a lot of really well educated and smart people who know a whole lot about the products they are selling. They are incredible! I also started learning more about the wellness area of the store. We sell everything under the sun and we try to be inclusive of everybody. We have creams, lotions, shampoos, shea butter, make-up, multivitamins, probiotics, fish oil, protein shakes, kids products, face washes, toothpaste and toothbrushes and so much more.

Also our food is amazing! We sell hot ready made food like pizza, a buffet of food, sandwiches, sushi, samples and much more. We have a smoothie & juice bar and of course our organic and all natural groceries. Think Whole Foods meets Wegmans or Costco only better. We have a bootlist of items that you won’t find in our food or other products.

Now I’ve only worked here a week but I will say this is a more affluent type of store and based on where they set up their stores it lets me know they know their consumer base kind of like Whole Foods.

The idea of this store is really cool and great to see that they care so much about organic, natural and healthy foods & products while caring for the Earth is awesome! Starting Tuesday I switch to casher and front end.

So check out and see if there is a Earth Fare in your neck of the woods.

Well till next time…stay healthy!
