The 1975 is a band coming out of Wilmslow, Cheshire in England. The band consist of members Matty Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald & George Danial. They formed in 2012 after having played covers together throughout their teen years. Their early names where Me and You Versus Them, Forever Enjoying Sex, Talkhouse, The Slowdown, Bigsleep, and Drive Like I Do, before settling on The 1975. They got the name the 1975 from a book of Beat Poetry by Jack Kerouac – who died in 1969, dated “1 June, The 1975”.

The 1975 have had four EPs and two albums 2012’s self-titled The 1975 & 2016’s I Love It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It.

I came across The 1975 in 2013 when I saw their music video for their song Chocolate off their self-titled effort and I liked what I herd. Once I learned more of this band I casually started to listen to more of their singles like Settle Down & Girls.  Then their 2016 album I Like It When You Sleep came out and again I listened to more of their singles like Love Me, The Sound & UGH! which I loved. They talk a lot about sex, drugs, religion and life in their music but from a more somber point of view. I think what drew me to this band was both Matty’s vocals and their fun & cleaver lyrical content like on Girls, Chocolate and Love Me.

Now I won’t say I am a huge fan of The 1975 but I do love many of their songs and vibes. Their 2016 album was a work of art after I went and listened to the whole record. You can say I am an above average fan of their music as I will always at least check out the singles from each album if I don’t always listen to the album in full.
