2016 Spring Jammie Jams

Happy Spring! Here is a quick little list of all the spring jams I’ve been bumpin on the old iPhone. This will be a list of what I am listening to at the moment or that is coming out soon & a list of my favorite spring toons.

Currently Bumpin:

Weezer- White Album: Love it! I have been a fan of Weezer since I was in high school and even though when I started to get into them their albums they weren’t really that great. But as I looked back into their earlier stuff I realized how great they were. This album kind of goes back to their earlier formula they had on their first album the Blue Album. The sound of this album is very California rock. Every song has something to do with California or that kind of upbeat vibe although not always upbeat. Favorite Tracks: Do You Wanna Get High?, LA Girls, Thank God for Girls

Brandy-Beggin & Pleadin: This song is fire! She goes hard in this song. Brandy of course is black girl magic and she goes in on a guy who was braking her heart. Her voice is so powerful in this song with her Brandy runs and man this just goes there.

Nahko and Medicine for the People-San Quentin-HOKA: This band is amazing these are my people. I discovered this band back in 2013-2014 it is hippie folk music that talks about a lot of social issues going on in the world. They bring me so much joy in my heart and brings how I feel in my head & heart into music. They have a new album coming out soon and their latest single is a beautiful testament to forgiveness. Its all about the killer of the lead singer Nahko’s father back in the day and the whole video is him meeting him after all these years and being able to forgive him for everything he did.

Allen Stone-Radius: Allen Stone is a soul/folk singer or a “hippie with soul” out of Washington, State who just recently moved to Seattle. I found out about him back in 2013 and was floored by the passion in his voice it just moved me. His last album which was self titled was amazing & was very upbeat and hopeful. This record is equally as hopeful but a little more somber. His voice is just like a fine wine it just gets better with time. I’ll say this is some bubble bath music.

Kendrick Lamar-Untitled Unmastered: These are basically left overs from To Pimp A Butterfly which was one of the best albums of the bast few years. These songs are very jazzy and soulful mixed with Kendrick’s stylish rhymes. Favorite Songs: Untitled 8, 5, 3

Miike Snow-Genghis Khan: Killer beat

Anderson Paak-Am I Wrong: Soulfull, jazzy singing with the live band vibe

Snakehips ft. Chance the Rapper & Tinashe-All My Friends: Love Chance the Rapper his flows and Tinashe is cool young singer and together they make this very cool song for us 20-somethings.

Majid Jordan: Signed by Drake to OVOO and basically they do what Drake does when he sings only better. I like their voices very The Weeknd vibes but a little better then him as there are two of them singing.

Santigold-99 Cents: This album is very playful and has a very diy feel from the way her album cover looks to the way her songs sound. It has a very eclectic sound like most of Santigold’s music but also has a message of marketing, personas and how everything is meditated which can be a dark thing but also a lot of fun depending how you look at it which was a big inspiration for her song Can’t Get Enough of My Self.

Koi Child- 1~5~9: Very jazzy with a live band & rapping kind of hippie lyrics beautiful

Mutemath-Monument: This song technically came out last year but its just so good. I’ve loved Mutemath for over 10 years and loved their last album and have listened to some tracks off their latest project. The video for this song is really cute too its this old man who made a museum like out of his house dedicated to his late wife.

Tegan & Sara-Love You To Death: This album hasn’t come out yet but from the singles I’ve herd its going to be a very bubbly ’80s inspired poppy album. From the singles Boyfriend, U Turn and others it going to be a fun album perfect for spring.

Miguel ft. Kacey Musgrave- Waves Remix: I love this song. Miguel & Kacey’s voices work well together although one is more R&B and one is more country but it works. The video is the both of them by the ocean and its in black and white.

Zendaya-Something New: The Disney darling put out another song which feels a little more grown up then her last single Replay. It features Chris Brown (which I know but I kind of like his singing) and takes the beat & some of the lyrics from the ’90s TLC hit Creep. Its a cute little song I can down.

Alessia Cara-Know It All: I have loved this girl since I first herd about her. A Canadian singer who started off making YouTube videos and then was discovered not to long ago and is now that new cool thing. Something I’ve noticed about her music is she talks a lot about being isolated yet happy about it. She talks about being different and having those friends who are like her and go against the grain and march to the beat of their own drum. She wants to be a champion for women and other issues the youth go through.  I love her for being a voice for the introverted weirdos of the world like myself. Songs off the album: Here, Four Pink Walls, Wild Things

Red Hot Chili Peppers-Dark Necessities: Their back! This track reminds me very much of their ’90s stuff which makes me very happy. Its got a darker feel to it and it has a lot of piano and Flea’s bass all over it. Anthony’s vocals are pure and gritty plus the album art work is very ’90s. Love it.

The 1975-: I’ve liked this band from England since 2013 when their first album came out which I loved. They just came out with their follow up album this year and from the singles I’ve herd I love it. Kind of poppy with a alt vibe to it mixed with a little bit of an ’80s feel. I love them and I think you will too check them out.

PVRIS: Another band with a female lead which after I fell in love with Paramore when I found PVRIS I was excited. Lyndsey the lead singer has got a voice on her. Their sound is a little dark think a pop-punk version of Evanescence. (who by the way is coming back this year with a tour) Haven’t gotten into them too much but like a few of their songs and find them actually pretty refreshing. I found out about them while watching the 2015 APMAs. Over all a great band to look into.

Issues: Great band sort of mix of metel-core with R&B. Tyler Cartor the singing vocalist of the band has this very malotic sounding voice where he can do these incredible rifs with his voice that sound so good. Then you have the screamer vocalist Michael Bohn which normally I am not into that kind of music but mixed with Tyler it just works. The rest of the band is dope and they have a black bassist Skyler Acord which is really cool as you don’t see many bands in this genera with black people (unless you look to Afropunk). Over all this band has a very unique sound and I love it.

Blink-182- Board To Death-New Song: Blink 182 just released a new song which is the first one with out Tom Delonge on the project. Even with out him on this track I still think its pretty good. It reminds me of ’90s or early 2000s Blink which is good. Check it out.
