Hey Readers! Happy Spring! Perfect time to see some music. Even better time to see some music that support awesome causes like ending extreme poverty by 2030. Well yesterday I got to see some awesome artist who support this organization called Global Citizen. Train, My Morning Jacket, Mary J Blige, Usher, Common, Fall Out Boy, No Doubt, Will-I-Am, Soledad O’ Brian, Don Cheadle, Chris Martin of Coldplay and a bunch of world leaders fighting to end global poverty and climate change. Now this was the first time I had ever herd of Global Citizen but I think its a great organization.

Global Citizen is a community of people like you. People who want to learn about and take action on the world’s biggest challenges—and use their power to get other people involved too. We bring you stories and actions that make a difference. That help fight extreme poverty and inequality around the world, and support approaches that will make life more sustainable for people and the planet.

They deal with issues around health, education, finance, hunger and food, water and sanitation, environment and citizenship. One issue they deal with is feminism as they know that poverty is very much a sexist hardship and so they support the campaign lead by Emma Watson He for She.

Another is stopping the rape of women in third world countries or giving women toilets so they can go to the bathroom safely. Other issues are food and hunger where they are trying to bring food security to farmers as well as re-thinking the way the United States does food aid.

With all the different issues they tackle Global Citizen tries to get music artist and young people involved in their fight to end these injustices all around the world. So by signing petitions, twitting important officials, volunteering and more those artist who have also pledged to help fight injustice come together to provide you with a free concert.

Now its not just young people and music artist but important world leaders, officials and advocates who come from  these communities that Global Citizen are trying to help fight poverty, climate change and injustice in. You had leaders from Switzerland, Germany, Africa, Central and South America, India, Asia the US, and more who came together and gave their speeches on their causes as well as the importance of Global Citizen. It was pretty powerful especially when they hyped up the women!

Now to the artist who came to play. When I go there Mary J. Blige was just about to go on. She is amazing live and despite the fact that she is getting up their a little in age she can still kill it. Mary did a lot of her hits including a crowd favorite Family Affair and she even did the Biggie remix of Real Love. That’s why they call her the Queen!

Then Fall Out Boy came on and if you know me you know I was excited! The played all the old favorites like Sugar We’re Going Down, Dance, Dance, My Songs, Thnks fr th Mmrs, Arms Race and a some of the new record American Beauty/American Psycho like Centuries and Uma Thurman. At first I thought Fall Out Boy’s set was kind of short and that they didn’t say long after but when I realized that they had to rush to the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony to induct Green Day a band they have stated many times as a big influence of FOB I was like oh well that’s cool. They were amazing but when are they not 😉

Later Usher played his set which consisted of a few of his songs like OMG, and Yeah! until he had Martin Garrix come out and do his song Animals.

He also had Common come out and did Glory and couple Common songs like my favorite The Light.

Now Usher had injured his one of his legs before the show so he was hobbling around on stage with his golden crutch. After a like 15 min intermission Usher ended coming back for part two where he did mostly covers of songs like Come Together and U2’s I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For before telling everyone that if they download the Global Citizen app they could get a chance to win his golden crutch and shirt off his back.   IMG_1681 IMG_1682 IMG_1684 IMG_1685 IMG_1686

The second to last act was an African dancie duo who were pretty cool but the biggest artist of the day for most people (second to Fall Out Boy for me) was No Doubt.

Chris Martin came on the stage to introduce them and made a very bad One Direction/Justin Beiber joke lol

No Doubt really were the highlight of the whole day. They really killed it. Playing all the favorites like I’m Just A Girl, Hey Baby, Hella Good, Don’t Speak, Spiderwebs and Push and Shove off their 2013 album. Gwen really was bad ass and even came out into the crowd. So Great! She had everybody jumping up and down and getting down to all the songs. It was an amazing day over all and to say I got to see all of this for free was awesome!

So during the festival all the artist, world leaders and host kept urging everyone to download the Global Citizen app and doing the 5 actions on the app. One of the things is signing a petition on behalf of getting more climate-friendly energy and committing to doing more acts of green. Also helping get universal education for everyone all around the world. I urge everyone to download the app and help do your part in causes abroad and at home in your own back yard. Over all I am blessed I got to be apart of this historic day as we celebrated the 45th anniversary of Earth Day!

Till Next Time Happy Earth Day!
